Yinlips YDPG18 Forum Mashup FAQ –
Last Updated: 24 Jan 2012
All wisdom here gathered from this thread: http://boards.dingoonity.org/other-game-systems/new-opensource-console-announced-the-rg/
Q: Why/For what do I need z4root ?
To root the device- this will allow you to:
-make a proper backups (all apps and data)
-remove not necessary apps from firmware, and get newer emulators running!
-a lot of other things like tweaks etc
Q: How do I root the device?

A: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2011/12/yinlips-ydpg18-how-to-enter-recovery.html
***24 Jan 2012 Update:
# You can now simply update the YDPG18’s firmware to root the device, by using community customised firmware – bitrider’s firmware is the first, and can be obtained via this post: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-modified-firmware-two-actually-rom.html .
## Download the firmware, copy it to the root directory of the SD Card, then hold down POWER, HOME and the DOWN BUTTON. If the firmware doesn’t update automatically, just select the “update firmware from SD Card” (or something like that)  option in the recovery console. ***

Q: What about the old versions of the emulators ? Can they be updated without rooting?
A: You cannot update the stock emulators at all. Even with root you can’t. You have to remove them first with titanium backup then install the new emulators. After the new ones are installed you can update like normal
***12 Jan 2012 Update: You still need to root, but can now update without Titanium backup. Look here: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-easily-updateremove-built-in.html***

Q: And in the rooting-video qbertaddict said he has to delete the original emulators in order to replace them with newer versions, so I need z4root for Titanium backup and then delete the default emus ?
Correct I was not able to update or remove any of the default stock emulators until I rooted the system. Even after rooted I had to use Titanium Backup to remove them. Titanium backup requires root to remove these items.
***12 Jan 2012 Update: You still need to root, but can now update without Titanium backup. Look here: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-easily-updateremove-built-in.html***
***24 Jan 2012 Update: bitrider’s modified firmware only has a few key apps in it, and removes most of the shipped bloatware. So, another way to easily remove all emulators is to (1) install bitrider’s new firmware and then (2) simply delete all applications (including the emulators that came with the YDPG18) from the recovery console. ***

Q: Do I have to install .emu emulators from the microSD-card ?
.emu emulators are available in Android Market only except for Snes9x EX. You have to buy them.
You can get newest Yongh's emulators free on slideme.org (except for n64oid)
Q: What is the newest version of N64oid?
A: 2.6.2. Latest version will always be here: http://slideme.org/application/n64oid

Q: How do I install Android market?
A: http://dingoo-scene.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-install-android-market-on.html
***24 Jan 2012 Update: bitrider’s modified firmware now comes with android market! ***

Q: Can I download any .apk and install it via the appinstaller ?
A: 1. place and .apk file/files on sd card
2. go to Settings->Applications and check Unknown Sources- this will allow you to install from other sources than Market
3. using any file browser just click on .apk file and installation will start

Q: Will all buttons after updating emulators work?
Buttons work on all emulators after update you just have to remap them in the settings of each emulator.

Q: And how about battery life? In movies, audio, browsing, gaming?
As for battery life I am running some tests on it. So far 4 hours on heave heavy use seems to be what I’m getting. Battery life can be better when/if new roms or updates allow for more tweaking…. Well with heavy use and wireless on i got 4 1/2 hours of use before it shutdown. Its not the best but not the worst.
Q: Does it support 32GB MicroSD cards?
32 gig cards work.
Q: Has anybody tried if one of the two headphone jacks has maybe also composite video? (with eg. the dingoo tv cable)
The 2 headphone jacks work well. Composite rca does not work.
Q: Is the USB port is only a slave port (eg. you connect it to the PC, but you cannot connect a keyboard for example)?
Plugging in a keyboard does not work.
Q: Does it support bluetooth?
No Bluetooth.
Q: How good is the Snes emulation?
Snes9x ex is free and runs everything great. The are a lot of better emulators available. I will show that in my next video.
Q: How good is the N64 compatibility? Some forums report the compatibility as not that good?
Updating the N64 from stock to latest fixes a lot of compatibility issues.
Q: Is the analog stick a real analog stick? Why doesn’t it seem to work as an analog stick?
I can confirm that the d-pad and the analog stick are two separate devices /dev/input/event2 is dpad and /dev/input/event3 is analog stick, unfortunately android doesn't support joysticks until 2.3, but they still should have given it separate keycodes from the d-pad.  Also for those who are wondering event0 is touchscreen and event1 is g-sensor.
Q: Where do I buy a Yinlips YDPG18?
A: Try here or taobao!

battery life - charging

Ale
battery life is not the strong point of the yinlips (3 hours, even less if it's working hard & wifi turned on...) on the other hand recharging is very fast, a lot faster than my dingoo! 1 hour or so...

Hi,
as a fresh YDPG18 user what should be the sequence of actions in order to get the following:
- newest firmware,
- Android Market working,
- rooted device,
- newest emulators.

What I mean is that there's been a firmware update published and my question is should I first install the update and then root or do you first root and then update?

ro0dy, updating to bitrider's new firmware is now the simplest way to do all this.  Hail bitrider!:)

Thanks, that's an old post and I had it covered for some time.
What I actually did is I cleaned up with Titannium Backup and installed the desired software since I already had 1073 FW out of the box.

Hi,

I would like to give a short update about the USB port. As I thought it is not a slave only port. If you are using a OTG cable .... Mouse and keyboard works fine.
Keep in mind, I have a G18 with Android 2.2 Firmware 1073 (not the 1075)
I just connected the cable and a mouse (mouse laser light up) and a small pointer appears (I got a big smile on my face :-) )

So please update the general FAQs regarding the USB ... you can add a mouse/keyboard.
I tested a USB keyboard now -> (started a terminal emulator) ... works great!!!!
I connected a 2,5" HDD, ... too less power provided by the G18 :-(, HDD not spins up
At home I will try a 1,8" HDD (got none at work :-) )

Now I found a 1,8" HDD, formatted with FAT32. The HDD is recognized and is mounted, but due to lack of power it will be removed ... mounted ... removed, aso.

I attached my power supply (5V, 3A) and the 1,8" works fine attached to the G18

Did you by any chance try any 3G dongle? That would be crazy if it worked!

Thanks, did you have to install the custom rom to get this to work, or did it just work out of the box when you connected the otg?

Re: YDPG18 FAQ

Well, I installed bitrider custom rom 1073, but the OTG cable should work with "untouched" G18.

I tested a 3G stick too, but there are some parts (I guess kernel mods, aso.) missing. I will investigate to get my dongle running. Today I will attach a bluetooth dongle. As far as I know Android (even 2.2) supports bluetooth "out-of-the-box".

I've already ordered an OTG cable so I will try for myself anyway :)
Thanks for sharing your experience with the BT/3G dongles.

I have taken the version of "Old" because I read in many forums that the Roma Bitraider not work with new and especially that of audio-related problems of delay.
For what it takes to me that I started in 1982 with the Vic 20 and has experienced every type of system and coin-up game this old version is fine for me.
I'm slowly entering the world, Android and I open this post to take away the last doubts (hoping to help people like me who is at the beginning).

1) How do I get the console the first thing I would do is throw the rom Bitraider that cleans the whole system and installs very good things (the market), but I did not understand one thing ..... There are 2 rom Bitraider ... a 1073 and 1075 .... If I understand it is based on the firware installed .... then wonder if I have the 1073 version or should I install that deserves to always or at least the 1075 is more updated?
To understand ... if my system was the 1073 or 1075 I can put the casino?

2) Do not know if there ... but if I installed a firmware higher to 1075 or do I still have not put what you can do?

3) I read about some cases (rare) that instead of Android 2.2, 2.3, have in the old ydpg18 ...... you can still get the 1075?
Help me please
